Note: B/w scans are from the magazine, where the print is in low quality paper and different ink colors so it sometimes scans pretty bad and leaves lots of noise in the picture. The tankoubon quality is, of course, much better (perfect, that is).

Chapter 3 (Sep'2002) [ vol.01 ]
Hanzou and Mamezou run to Usagi's side while Yuuri thinks that it would be good if she was the only candidate for Hanzou's bride... Hanzou puts his fingers into Usagi's mouth and tells her to vomit. Finally, he manages to pull out what was choking her, a giant fish spine!! (Hanzou wonders in amazement if she is some kind of snake to have been able to swallow that...) Yuuri looks surprised and worried. Later on, Usagi is upset when she discovers she will share bedroom with Yuuri, but it doesn't last long as she falls asleep right away. Yuuri just doesn't know what to make of Usagi! (^^; ) Next morning, Hanzou walks into Yuuri preparing breakfast. Hanzou is happy she woke up so early, while poor Mamezou has to drag a sleepy Usagi into the room. As Hanzou yells at Usagi to wake up, Yuuri puts some powders into Usagi's bowl and thinks she will put some more than what she put in the evening before. Yuuri gives the bowl to Usagi, but Usagi wonders where the old man is. One of the attending girls says that he is ill. The group starts to eat, and Usagi finishes in record time! Yuuri stares in shock that she seems perfectly normal. Hanzou tells Usagi that she will have to help with the house chores from now on, since she is no longer "guest," but an apprentice. As she and Mamezou wash the dishes and then clean the floors, Yuuri still wonders what's wrong with Usagi. She wonders if there is something wrong with the poison powders she used and tastes a little bit... falling sick instantly! Usagi runs to her side and asks what happened to her. Yuuri wonders why it didn't work on her, and Usagi sees the little poison powder tub spilling on the floor. Usagi tells her that poisons don't work on her body, and runs to get her water and some medicine from between her things. She tells Yuuri that because she has been drinking lots of medicines, her body is immune. She makes Yuuri drink lots of water and is helping her vomit as Hanzou walks by the room and wonders what is wrong. Usagi tells him that it seems Yuuri felt bad because of something she ate at breakfast. Hanzou gives his condolences and says he is going to visit the old man because his illness is getting worse. After that, it's water walking time! Usagi gives Hanzou a bag and tells him it's a medicine against the man's illness. After he has left, Yuuri complains there was nothing wrong with her and her eating, but Usagi tells her that of course Yuuri would prefer her to explain Hanzou about what really happened? (No... not really...) (^^; ) Usagi puts Yuuri into bed and covers her up. She tells her she will probably have to spend two or three days in bed. A sick looking Yuuri wonders with worry who Hanzou likes... not some stupid-girl like Usagi, nor someone like her... someone else then. Usagi remembers his words ("I'm better alone"). At water walking (with wood plates under her feet), Usagi is not doing too well. She falls into the deep part of the river and poor Mamezou begs Hanzou to save her... Hanzou can't believe Usagi doesn't even know how to swim! (^^;;; ) He decides that first thing is to teach her that, and strips to the waist. Usagi is totally taken! (^^) Hanzou tries to teach her to swim, but Usagi just keeps on thinking about him being semi-naked... (^^;;; ) A man runs to them and tells Hanzou that the old man is looking much better after taking Usagi's medicine. The man says that it's the first time he sees such a great working medicine. Usagi is happy and says she'll prepare some more... Hanzou and the man are totally shocked that she actually prepared the medicine herself! While Usagi blows her nose, Mamezou explains that Usagi is really good at making medicines, and Hanzou is really excited about it. Usagi is surprised by this and is also very happy (and she also has some nose drippings because she didn't blow enough...^^;; ) Usagi goes back to the house to make more medicine, while the story has gone around and she is drowned by people asking her for medicine. At first she doesn't really want to because it's so much, but when Hanzou appears, she promises to stay making medicine until the following day! Hanzou smiles happily. Really late that day, poor Usagi is still at it, while Mamezou falls asleep. Usagi stands up to go drink something to help her not fall asleep, but unfortunately slips on the paper that had the medicines! Now she has to do them again. She goes into the forest with a candle to find the ingredients, and there she finds Hanzou. Hanzou wonders what the heck she is doing there at that time, and Usagi says that she promised... Hanzou tells her to continue the next day, but Usagi angrily tells him it's no good, and that she made a promise to Hanzou, so she is doing it until the following day! Hanzou looks at her face and then takes her candle and seizes her hand! (^^) Hanzou drags her along and says they'll go together. Usagi blushes and wonders about Hanzou's big, warm hand. When they arrive at certain place, Hanzou blows off the candle and Usagi grabs his arm, scared. But Hanzou tells her to stay silent, and soon the air is filled with fireflies. Usagi is amazed at the view, and Hanzou says that he comes alone to this place often because he likes the little, gentle, flickering lights. Usagi looks up at him and in the mood of the moment, asks if there is someone he likes. She then realizes what she just asked and blushes furiously, but Hanzou just gets a faraway look on his eyes and is non-committal. Usagi looks down and starts to cry. Hanzou looks at her worriedly and asks why she is crying, and she replies that even though he is really close to her now, he seems to be very far away. Hanzou's expression turns a little sad and he pulls her close to him. He tells her she is silly, of course he is there. Usagi looks sad and thinks she can hear his heartbeats.
Chapter 4 (Sep'2002) [ vol.01 ]
Usagi wakes up in her futon and thinks perhaps it was all a dream, but then she sees the fresh herbs; it wasn't! After she makes some more medicines, she sees Hanzou is getting ready to go and is dressed in a handsome yukata. He is going to the capital for three days. After he is gone, Usagi breaks a jar while she is trying to clean the bedroom. As it happens, it was a heirloom of the family! Usagi is really upset at this and thinks Hanzou will hate her for it, so she leaves the house and tries to sell her medicines. However, she is attacked by some men and is saved by a handsome man! He is very happy and nice to Usagi and tells her that he is buying all her medicines! Then he tucks her into her own bag (^^;;; ) and merrily takes her away on his horse. Poor Usagi is really creeped out... When Hanzou lets her out, she is in a beautiful kimono-maker shop. The man asks which she likes and she says that they are all probably too expensive... The man simply tells the owner to put her in a kimono and pretty her up a little. Of course Usagi is not too happy with this, but when the man shows her a mirror, she is surprised that she looks pretty. The man then takes Usagi into the city, and she sees a jar merchant, so she is very happy because she gets to buy a jar to replace the one she broke. He then takes her for lunch and as usual, she gobbles all down... (^^;;; ) She does notice that this man and Hanzou kind of look alike... She turns sad when thinking about not being able to see Hanzou and the man uses the opportunity to start taking advantage of her! Usagi freaks out and runs away to the window, unfortunately... the window is on the second floor! (western first floor)!! The man tries to warn her, but it's too late and Usagi starts to fall down. Luckily he is fast enough to grab the end of her obi (the wide belt-like fabric of a kimono/yukata) and she is left hanging from the window... right in front of Hanzou! Hanzou tells her she should stop scaring him witless like this unless she is planning of giving him a hear attack. But from upstairs, the other man seems to recognize him. Hanzou looks up and is surprised to see the man, "Hanzou!" (*) (* - The Man, Hanzou, is the main male character in "Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu" and "Tsuki no Toiki, Natsu no Yume" (in which the dark-haired Hanzou was introduced), both of which were released before "Tsuki no Shippo." His name is written in a different way, but is also pronounced "Hanzou." I'll figure out some way of telling them apart in my synopsis... ^^; ) Random Scenes: [ Hanzou ] [ Han+Han+Usa ]
Chapter 5 (Oct'2002) [ vol.01 ]
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Hanzou manages to grab Usagi by her ankles before she hits the floor and runs inside the shop with her upside down (^^;;; ). Hanzou demands to know why Hanzou II is in that kind of shop with Usagi, and she uses the opportunity to run get the jar and offer it to him, saying how sorry she is she broke a heirloom, but to her surprise, what he is mad about is for her not to be careful enough and ending up in a place like that one (pleasure house). Hanzou II cheers Hanzou on, but then has to shut up when Hanzou asks him why Usagi felt the need to jump from the second floor window... (^^;;; ) Hanzou II says that he fondled her breasts and Hanzou wants to cut him in stripes (^^;;;; ). Hanzou II says he is sorry but he didn't know she was Hanzou's woman. Hanzou denies that (to Usagi's utter disappointment!) and says that she is his disciple. Besides, why is Hanzou II fooling around when he has his own princess?? At the mention of Sara (see Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu), Hanzou cools down and introduces Hanzou II. Hanzou tells him to stay with Usagi while he goes to work. Of course, Usagi is not about to be left behind, and convinces Hanzou II to follow Hanzou... Hanzou II realizes Usagi feels something for Hanzou, and she is downcast about it. She asks him what type of woman Hanzou likes and he replies that he likes pretty girls, with nice, silky long hair and that are strong. Poor Usagi is really depressed, she is nothing of that! They follow Hanzou to a building over a hill and suddenly they are attacked by a man... it's Rikimaru! (see Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) Hanzou II and Rikimaru are shocked to see each other, and the person waiting for Hanzou in the building is, of course, Sara. Sara, dressed in a kimono returns a document to Hanzou and they talk a little while both Hanzou II and Usagi listen from the outside. Sara stops Hanzou before he leaves and says that she is worried about Hanzou II being unfaithful. Usagi is shocked that this beautiful princess is the lover of this perverted Hanzou II, while he tries to drag Usagi away (^^;;; ). Sara then says that she wonders if she wasn't happier back when she was Hanzou's bride... Hanzou II and Usagi storm in the room in anger at that (^_^;; ), but suddenly they are approached by a group of armed men. Hanzou II sends Usagi away from danger and tells Sara to run away. Usagi runs back to them worried about Hanzou, and Sara uses the opportunity of Hanzou being distracted to change into her ninja clothes and finish with the men. Usagi is amazed at her ability. Sara slaps Hanzou II and demands to know what he was doing with that woman, but Hanzou II explains (hmph.) that she is Hanzou's pupil, and Sara is sorry she hit him (hmph!). Sara introduces herself and Usagi learns that she is the daughter of Nobunaga Oda. Usagi is really impressed at all the things Sara has done. Hanzou II asks Hanzou to house Sara with him, but Hanzou refuses right away and starts to drag Usagi away, saying they are returning home. Usagi is worried because of insulting Sara, who just saved their lives, but when she looks at his face... she sees he is blushing and has a weird expression on it!
Chapter 6 (Oct'2002) [ vol.01 ]
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Usagi stops Hanzou and tells him that he is being very cold to the princess, who needs his help, and at the end he has no other option but agree for her and Hanzou II to stay with him. Hanzou is carrying a sleepy Usagi, and goes to put her on the bedroom. Hanzou II says she is really a nice girl and wonders if Hanzou doesn't want to be with her, but Hanzou replies that it's none of his business. Mamezou shows Sara and Rikimaru his little wild piglet, and Hanzou blushes when looking at her. Meanwhile Usagi wakes up and Hanzou II tries to help her jokingly out of her yukata. Sara sees this, but instead of replying to Hanzou II's comment about how funny Usagi is, she gets really angry and upset and tells him she can't stand him playing and hugging other women like this and since he knows, why can't he stop? Hanzou II turns really serious and tells her that he loves her but he also likes being nice to/with other women. Sara says that if that's so, then they are breaking up. Usagi is really upset at all of this and tries to stop Sara from walking off, but Hanzou II tells her that's it's not her fault this happened and that he is going away. Usagi runs to find Hanzou and tells him about the fight and Hanzou II going away (woah, cool shot of Hanzou with loose hair! ^^). Hanzou just says that they are always like this and sends her to do her house chores. While Usagi cleans the dishes and ponders about love problems, Sara appears and starts to help her. Usagi is still very worried and tells her that Hanzou II really holds her dear. Sara asks her if she would be ok with her man going out with other women and Usagi has to shut up... (^^;; ) Mamezou notices a rabbit's tail hanging from Sara's belt, and she explains that Hanzou gave it to her(*). Mamezou runs to show Sara the knife Hanzou gave him, and Usagi broods because she hasn't gotten any present from Hanzou (^^). Talking about which, Hanzou himself appears and starts to scold Usagi for having Sara helping her out. He is really harsh on Usagi, but Sara cuts him and tells him it was her decision to help. Usagi notices how Hanzou blushes and looks away and gives in very fast. Usagi thinks about this as she cleans one of the yards and overhears two men talking about Hanzou II and Sara's fight and how now that they are separated, she can be Hanzou's spouse. Usagi wants them to stop saying those things, but the men tell her about Sara and Hanzou's past almost-marriage(*). Poor Usagi realizes that Hanzou likes Sara and remembers all his weird words and blushing... Usagi walks numbly to the ninja training yard thinking how because he likes Sara, he wouldn't take either Yuuri or herself. She sits under a table and watches Sara throwing ninja stars with perfect accuracy to the awe of all the other students. She thinks how Sara is beautiful, has long hair, is very good at things and is really a nice woman. Hanzou appears and tells the people not to bother Sara. He tells Usagi to stand up so they can go continue the swimming lessons, but then stops surprised when Usagi doesn't move an inch. He grabs her arm and tries to pull her up, but Usagi says that doing those things is now meaningless... Hanzou is surprised, but soon pulls her up over his shoulder, walks to the outside door of the keep and throws her out! He tells her angrily that if she doesn't have the feelings for it, then she can leave! Poor Usagi watches as Hanzou closes the door on her. (*: See "Tsuki no Toiki, Natsu no Yume" in "Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu" tankoubon.)
Chapter 7 (Nov'2002) [ vol.01 ]
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Usagi bangs on the door and pleads for Hanzou to let her in again, but he walks away. Usagi and Mamezou sit at the door, waiting. Mamezou tries to cheer Usagi up, but she is unresponsive. Soon it starts to rain and inside the house Sara wonders if Hanzou shouldn't let her enter already, but he tells her it's his and Usagi's business, not her problem. Outside, Mamezou has found a big leaf that serves as umbrella, and still tries to cheer Usagi up. Since she doesn't react, the poor boy starts to cry and Usagi hugs him and says she is sorry. Usagi thinks that Hanzou is not forgiving her and that he hates her... Hanzou finally goes to open the doors for Usagi but... she is no longer there! In fact, she is walking away, carrying a sleeping Mamezou on her back. She slips and falls and realizes she is in the spot where Hanzou showed her the fireflies. In that moment, Hanzou catches up with her and starts telling her to go back, have a bath, etc... while he puts a piece of fabric around Usagi's bleeding knee. But Usagi tells him that she is stopping her training and returning to her grandfather's home. She cries and exclaims that since Hanzou already likes Sara, there is no point in her trying to become someone like that anymore! Usagi runs away and after a while, sees that Hanzou hasn't followed, so she walks on. Back at Hanzou's keep, Yuuri is very happy to learn that Usagi has gone away, but when she goes to talk to Hanzou, she discovers he is talking with Sara. Sara tries to find out if it's a good thing for Hanzou that Usagi has gone back home, while Hanzou is blushing and upset at Usagi's "you like the princess" words. Sara starts to cry, upset as well because she thinks it's her fault, and then because she is still having a hard time over Hanzou II. Hanzou is affected by her tears and lifts his hand to comfort her, but then drops is and goes away. Yuuri is not very happy... Later, poor Usagi is half-fainted with Mamezou on top, when someone comes to the rescue... Usagi has a dream about Hanzou declaring her love to Sara and both of them running together to a happy end while a bug-sized Usagi is flicked away by Hanzou... (^^;;; ) When Usagi wakes up, she is back in her grandfather's house (who tries to cook poor Mamezou's wild piggy as well... ^^;;; ). Usagi goes to her own room, but in there finds a handsome young man with several scars on his body with a woman! Usagi recognizes the guy as Goemon and demands to know what the hell he is doing making perverted things in her room! As it turns out, he is just teaching the woman some ninja things (^^;; ) and there are other pupils in the room as well... Usagi is fed up and kicks them out of her room so she can sleep. As the girls leave the room they talk about Goemon having a bad leg and that being the reason he is teaching for the moment, since he is actually quite a good ninja. Also, he used to be Usagi's husband-to-be! In her room, Usagi is trying to sleep while muttering "good dream, good dream" (^^), but then realizes Goemon is getting under the covers with her! She demands to know what he is doing, and he just says that he is tired so he also wants to rest... then teases Usagi about why wouldn't it be ok, them having been betrothed and all that. Then he starts guessing at the reasons why she came back from Hanzou's keep, and Usagi covers her ears yelling they are hurting (^^). She demands to know how he knows about why she came back and he smiles sweetly and says that he knows everything about her because he has been watching her since she was born. Goemon wonders if they shouldn't put a new bandage on her knee but Usagi stops him and says that Hanzou did it... She smiles as she remembers that he also bandaged her knee when they met for the first time. She thinks that Hanzou is a really good person and that she really likes him but... Goemon starts to tease her about her crying, which snaps her out of her stupor and makes her try to hit him... He plays with her a little and then seizes her hands and pushes her back onto the futon with a sudden serious expression on his face. Usagi wonders what's going on and he tells her that she will forget about Hanzou because he is making her his bride.
