Note: B/w scans are from the magazine, where the print is in low quality paper and different ink colors so it sometimes scans pretty bad and leaves lots of noise in the picture. The tankoubon quality is, of course, much better (perfect, that is).

Chapter 11 (Jan'2003) [ vol.02 ]
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Hanzou tells Goemon that if Usagi can learn the ninja arts, then he doesn't think it would be a problem (her being his bride and having his children). Everybody is really surprised at this, but it's Yuuri who runs in and tells Hanzou that she herself has been practicing since she was 7! However, Hanzou tells her that he knows that is a lie, and that it was actually her twin sister Yuuna who knows the ninja arts. Yuuri runs away in shame. Usagi follows Yuuri. Yuuri tells her that she doesn't understand what it is to have a perfect sister who always wins. Usagi tells her that then they will both try their best at learning ninja arts together. Goemon catches up with them, but Usagi hides behind Yuuri and asks Goemon to promise never to do weird things to her again. Goemon promises, while Yuuri wants to know what she means with "weird things" (the kiss ^^;; ). Goemon starts their training by making Usagi carry Mamezou on her back, just like he had to do with baby-Usagi when he was a kid. Sara catches up with them. Usagi notices she is not in very high spirits. While Sara is getting fruits, she is suddenly attacked by Goemon, who knows her from before, since she is one of Oda's special assassins/ninja. But to his surprise, Sara just whispers to him to get on with it and finish her. Before anything else happens, Hanzou appears and protects Sara. Usagi and Yuuri also catch up with them, wondering what's going on. To their shock, Sara starts to cry and says that it's better to die because no matter how much she waits, Hanzou II is not coming back, and it's the same for her to live without him as being dead. Hanzou embraces Sara and begs her not to say that she wants to die. Usagi contemplates how deep Sara's feelings for Hanzou II are, and how Hanzou's feelings for Sara are. She wonders if her feelings are this strong. Goemon apologizes and they leave Hanzou and Sara alone. While in their bath, Yuuri and Usagi have a discussion about Hanzou, Hanzou II and Sara when Goemon decides to join in! (^^;;; ) Goemon pays no attention to their screams at his nudity and ends up sharing the bath with them (really dark water...). Goemon tells them that Hanzou II is in Hamamatsu and proposes that if they don't like how well Hanzou and Sara look together, then maybe they should go to talk to Hanzou II. Yuuri is worried about what Hanzou might say about it, so Goemon tells them that it's ok not to tell him the real plan and just say they are going on an training trip. The three are soon ready to go but Hanzou is not happy at all with this. He keeps yelling at Usagi that of course he is going to worry because it's Usagi after all (and we all know how well Usagi's plans end...). Nevertheless, Usagi happily tells him not to worry and the three of them (with Mamezou, and possibly the wild piggy too) take their leave. Hanzou is not convinced at all and asks in vain where they are going. Usagi mentally tells him to wait for her and that she will try hard for Sara's sake.
Chapter 12 (Feb'2003) [ vol.02 ]
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Usagi, Goemon, Yuuri and Mamezou are on their way. Usagi complains because she doesn't get to wear a kimono like Yuuri, and Goemon says it's because of her short hair. Yuuri thinks he is really cool. Suddenly, a man grabs Yuuri's ankle. It's a wounded warrior, so Usagi runs to get some medicine for him (of course Yuuri is not too convinced about helping him...). While she is about to get the plant she needs, another man snatches it from right under her hand. Usagi pleads for him to give her the plant since she needs it for the wounded man, and ends up dragging him to the others. The man and Usagi happily babble away about medicinal plants while they tend the wounded... (^^;; ) Eventually they leave after giving the man some food and water. Usagi notices Goemon is hurting in the leg, so she gives him some medicine she prepared for him... Goemon is in heaven! But of course Usagi ignores his lovingly attentions. Meanwhile Yuuri wonders why he gives so much attention to Usagi. While Goemon and Mamezou go fishing for dinner, Yuuri asks Usagi why she won't take Goemon since he is so cool. Usagi is surprised that Yuuri finds him cool and explains that since she grew up with him, she really can't see him that way. Usagi realizes what all this is about and runs to tell Goemon Yuuri likes him but is stopped by a log thrown to her head by Yuuri (^^;;; ). During dinner, Goemon licks some fish crumbles from Usagi's cheek, making her really mad at him. Goemon complains they have been doing it forever, but Usagi says that it was when they were kids and she is no longer a kid. Yuuri tries the same trick, but Goemon just washes her face with a napkin... (^^; ) Meanwhile, Hanzou is still mad about the whole thing and keeps imagining all the things Usagi can mess up (little Usagi falling down, falling down a cliff, drowning... and all while calling for him). He also remembers Usagi's smiling face and has sudden pains (the stress...), but he also blushes. On her part, Usagi is happily dreaming about Hanzou while Goemon is watching over the camp. Goemon wonders what the heck Usagi finds in Hanzou. Next day they arrive at the gates of Hanzou II's keep. Goemon tells the guards they have business with Hanzou while Usagi is in total awe at the place (even though it's just the back door of the fortification...). A man appears behinds them and asks what they want with him, saying he is Hattori Hanzou. Yuuri is surprised this is Sara's beloved, but Usagi suddenly remembers Hanzou II telling her that he had the same name as his father's! Unfortunately, even though Goemon tries his best, Usagi keeps saying all the wrong things, and at the mention of the princess (Sara), Hanzou Sr. gets mad and tells them to leave the place. Goemon drags Usagi away. Later that evening, Goemon tells Usagi that Hanzou II's father obviously doesn't like the business between his son and the princess, so he is sneaking into the castle to talk to Hanzou II. As he does the ninja act over walls and roofs, he happily thinks that thanks to Usagi's wonderful medicine, his leg isn't hurting. Meanwhile, Usagi is trying to crawl up the outside wall because she wants to go help Goemon since his leg is in bad shape. Unfortunately she falls and they are seen by the guards. While Yuuri wisely hides in the forest, Usagi and Mamezou just try to run away by using a smoke screen... unfortunately Usagi uses too many of them packs and ends up running straight into a wall because she can't see where she is going! About the same time, Hanzou has reached the jails of the keep, where he tells a jailed Hanzou II to keep quiet, he is on his side. Hanzou Sr. has been alerted and is taken to where a captured Usagi and Mamezou are. Mamezou is crying loudly that Usagi is dead, while Usagi is lying unconscious with a small pool of blood forming under her injured head.
Chapter 13 (Feb'2003) [ vol.02 ]
Thanks to anime-cat for her help with some of the dialogue! ^^ Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Goemon and Hanzou II are about to run away from the castle when they hear Mamezou's cries. Unfortunately, Goemon's knee chooses that moment to give away and he falls from the roof of the building. A long time later, Usagi regains consciosuness... with a bandaged head, surrounded by Goemon, Mamezou and Yuuri, and... in a prison cell. Yuuri says that it's because of her that they all got caught and Goemon demands to know why she didn't stay where he told her to wait. Usagi says that she felt bad about Goemon going alone with his bad leg. Goemon gets angry at this and asks why she doesn't relay on him--his life is for her sake! Usagi is impressed. Yuuri is not amused. From the next cell, Hanzou II says he is sorry everybody got into this problem because of him. From outside, his father interrupts and says that if he changes his mind about Sara, he will let them all go. Hanzou II says angrily he is not giving up on her. From the other cell, Usagi tries to help and tries to tell Hanzou Sr. (who she calls "bearded Hanzou" to differentiate... ^^; ) that Hanzou II and Sara love each other very much. Hanzou Sr. starts to express his opinion, but has a sudden stomach pain. Behind him, another man appears and asks about his health. Hanzou Sr. kneels right away and treats him with great respect while Usagi recognizes him as the man she encountered on their way to the castle. Hanzou Sr. is shocked at the way Usagi treats the man but he tells him it's ok, she is his friend. From the other cell, Hanzou II is even more shocked and asks Usagi how come she is a friend of Ieyasu-sama (Tokugawa Ieyasu). Usagi doesn't have a clue but suddenly realizes who he is. Ieyasu asks Usagi how her wound is doing and Usagi is impressed that he was who tended it. She pleads for him to forgive Hanzou II and Sara, because he can make it a command. Ieyasu is silent for a moment, then tells Usagi that princess Sara killed his wife and heir. Usagi is shocked. Hanzou II explains that it was done to stop a war between the Oda and Tokugawa houses because those two were planning a rebellion against Oda. Ieyasu says that even though, if Sara was to appear, he would have to put his katana to good use. Hanzou Sr. tries to add his opinion, but his stomach is hurting too much. Usagi gives him some of her medicine, and Ieyasu vouches for her, so he has no other option than to take it (^^; ). They are interrupted by Hanzou, who has rushed to the keep and asks for forgiveness that his disciples have caused so many problems. Hanzou Sr. introduces him to Ieyasu, and Ieyasu orders them to be set free. Usagi is really happy that Hanzou came, though Hanzou is really mad at her! He tells her he was worried and demands to know what happened to her head. Usagi unrolls the bandages and happily says that it is nothing of importance and that she's fine. Hanzou is appalled and sad because Usagi now has a stitched wound running down the middle of her forehead, which he considers really bad to happen to a woman's face. He kisses it and then hugs her close, telling her not to do something like this again! (Watch Goemon go ballistic) They are interrupted once again, this time by a soldier who comes in running warning about an intruder... who happens to be Sara herself. Sara says that she has come because she wanted to see Hanzou II. Hanzou Sr. starts to take out his katana, saying she has come to die, but to everybody's surprise, Usagi steps in front of Sara! Usagi asks if he doesn't want to know what Sara's feelings are, or what she has gone through to come here. Sara thanks Usagi, but then goes to Hanzou Sr. and kneels, offering her own sword on the floor. Ieyasu steps forward and asks if she is princess Sara. Sara says that by the order of his father, she destroyed Ieyasu's family and must now make up for what she did. From inside the cell, Hanzou II starts to guess what is going to happen, and asks what the heck she is doing. Sara says that she is happy because she got to see him one last time. Usagi realizes Sara is getting ready to die and tries to stop her, saying that she must stay alive so she and Hanzou II can be happy together. From the cell, Hanzou II yells that if she dies, then he will too! He then turns to his father and asks him to kill him. Ieyasu asks for the keys to his cell, and says that if that's how much they feel it, then they should be together. He lets Hanzou II out to Usagi's happiness and Sr. Hanzou's surprise. Hanzou II and Sara embrace and declare their love while everybody else smiles... until Ieyasu puts his arm around Usagi's shoulders and announces that in exchange, he will keep Usagi! Goemon and Hanzou go berserk, but Ieyasu says that he doesn't want her like that, he wants to oversee her in her medicine-making career. Usagi very much wants not to stay, and Hanzou tells Ieyasu that she was put in his charge by her grandfather so... But Ieyasu asks Hanzou if he really thinks Usagi can become a ninja and if it wouldn't be better for her to stay and improve her skills with medicine. Hanzou seems to have a hard time thinking about this, but finally tells Usagi that Ieyasu is right, and that she is not suited to be a ninja, so she should stay. Goemon demands to know why Hanzou says this, since he promised Usagi that he would teach her the ninja arts, but Usagi tells him to stop. Usagi starts to cry and says that she is staying. If she can't become a ninja, and therefore can't become Hanzou's bride... then, she shouts at them angrily, then there is no point in returning home. Goemon says that in that case, he is staying as well, and so is Mamezou. But Ieyasu says that there is nothing for them to do there, so they can't stay. Goemon accuses him of being sly, but Usagi says that it doesn't matter, then tells them all to leave. (Yuuri is really happy to have Goemon all for herself...) Ieyasu watches the group (Goemon, Yuuri, Mamezou, both Hanzou and Sara and her aide) leave from one of the balconies in the castle. He asks a hiding Usagi if it's okay for her not to give her farewell. Usagi hugs her knees and says it's fine, as she internally goes over what Hanzou said about her not being skilled for becoming a ninja. A young man approaches her and wonders what's with all this depression.
Chapter 14 (Mar'2003) [ vol.02 ]
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Hanzou and co. are on their way back. Hanzou II wonders if this is really okay, and Hanzou says that it's for Usagi's sake. Meanwhile, in the castle, Ieyasu introduces the newcomer, Yukimaru, to Usagi. Usagi thinks Yukimaru is a really beautiful woman! Yukimaru is also there as a doctor and laughs at Usagi's lack of qualifications in the field. They are interrupted by Hanzou Sr., whose wife has gotten worse. Usagi inspects the medicines Yukimaru has prepared for her, but recommends that she stops taking them because the body can't cope with so much of it. Hanzou Sr. sides with Usagi and Yukimaru goes away really angry. Usagi goes out for some herbs, worried about the discussion she had with Yukimaru, since it wasn't her intention to upset "her." As she tries to get something from a cliff, Yukimaru appears behind her posed to push her but... the stone breaks and Usagi falls by herself! Yukimaru is about to leave but Goemon jumps up with Usagi in his arms! He confronts Yukimaru, but Usagi tells him to stop. Goemon wants to take Usagi back, but she tells her that she can't leave because she is needed at the castle. Goemon eventually understands and leaves. In the evening, Usagi asks Yukimaru if she can join "her" in the bath. Yukimaru looks away still affronted and Usagi steps in anyway. She tries to apologize for hurting Yukimaru's feelings and tells "her" that she only wants to help Hanzou Sr.'s wife as much as Yukimaru does. Yukimaru steps out of the bath, with "her" long hair covering her back and tells Usagi to scrub "her" back if she really wants to apologize. Usagi is happy to comply and is amazed at Yukimaru's beautiful skin. Yukimaru tells Usagi that she is giving "her" a bad feeling... Usagi angrily demands to know why, and Yukimaru turns around and replies that Usagi keeps on talking like a woman even though he is a... Usagi and Yukimaru finally see each other's naked fronts and all hell breaks loose (Usagi though Yukimaru was a girl, Yukimaru thought Usagi was a boy)! (^^;; ) However, after Usagi screams her head off, she realizes that Yukimaru has fainted and looks ill! Poor Hanzou Sr. arrives at the baths alarmed by all the screaming and wonders in horror just how long they have been like this... (^^)
