Note: B/w scans are from the magazine, where the print is in low quality paper and different ink colors so it sometimes scans pretty bad and leaves lots of noise in the picture. The tankoubon quality is, of course, much better (perfect, that is).

Chapter 32 (Dec'2003) [ vol.05 ]
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Hanzou Sr. = Blonde Hanzou's father. (beta version) Suzune's brats keep trying to make Mamezou's life impossible but Usagi gets upset when he says because of him she is having problems and assures him that she needs him by her side. This makes Mamezou happy but Suzune's son decides to "play" with him and lights Mamezou's little bunny tail charm afire, which ends in a whole barn going up in flames with Mamezou inside. Hanzou attempts to go in but is restrained. Usagi arrives and is told Mamezou is inside, so she splashes herself with water and runs in to everybody's shock. She finds Mamezou unconscious and brings him out as Suzune appears complaining about all the noise. Usagi shouts at her to shut up and pushes her aside while asking the servants for cold water (go Usagi!!! ^o^ ^__^). While Hanzou doses Mamezou with cold water, Usagi prepares some medicines for his severe burns. Mamezou is really sorry he again caused so much trouble, but Usagi tells him that it's ok because it's him. As Usagi goes to wash herself, she overhears the brats talking about the incident and how the son started it and she gets really mad. She starts to slap the kid's backside saying she won't stop until he apologizes, but Suzune stops her and puts a ninja star against her throat as Hanzou arrives to the scene. Usagi yells at Suzune that if she has to kill her, then go ahead, but she won't forgive someone who endangered Mamezou like that (Go, Go, Go, Usagi! ^o^ ). Chapter 33 (Jan'2004) [ vol.05 ]
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Hanzou Sr. = Blonde Hanzou's father. Usagi stays firm and Suzune is enraged, but before the worst comes to happen, the brat starts to cry and scream for forgiveness, confessing he was the one who started the fire. Suzune leaves Usagi and takes the two children away. Poor Usagi is left trembling like a pudding from the scare (^^). Hanzou treats Usagi's burns and admonishes her for always acting rashly. He tells her it's the first time he sees somebody stand up to her sister. Usagi says that it was for Mamezou's sake and Hanzou smiles and tells her she acted as an adult. To make Mamezou's rest happier, Usagi promises him to make special "sesame balls" for him (this is a traditional Japanese meal with a type of dough cooked in the form of a ball with different types of seeds or other fruits or food inside) and asks one of the girls in the keep to teach her. After spending the whole night perfecting the recipe, Usagi manages to come up with some that she thinks are really good. (Suzune watches this.) Usagi also prepares breakfast, and Hanzou notices Usagi's belly has gotten bigger from eating all the extras... ^^; The other people in the keep congratulate Usagi, but she notices Suzune and her kids haven't come to breakfast. While Mamezou eats his sesame balls, Hatsune and Kasanosuke (the brats) come to visit and apologize. Kasanosuke also returns Mamezou's bunny tail charm. Mamezou cries from happiness but doesn't want to show it and the three kids make up. Later at night, Hanzou sees Suzune sewing something. After Mamezou is good enough to walk, he, Hatsune and Kasanosuke help bring veggies to Usagi for her cooking. While she cooks, Suzune appears and starts giving her some tips. Usagi is really scared and grabs a cover to protect herself from possible flying objects, but to her surprise Suzune compliments her on the taste of the soup and then says it's time to prepare Usagi on how to be a bride. Suzune takes Usagi away from the kitchens and shows her a very pretty kimono. Suzune says it was hers when she was young and gives it to Usagi. Usagi is very confused, but Suzune says that the she has understood that Usagi's feelings for Mamezou are the same feelings she has for her children, and because of that, Usagi might just be perfect for the Hattori House. Usagi hugs Suzune in happiness (to Suzune's dismay!). (^^) That night, Usagi serves dinner in her new kimono and tells Hanzou she has started to learn how to be a good bride. Hanzou seems surprised by her new outfit and blushes a little. He is even more shocked when he learns Suzune is who gave her the kimono. Suzune herself appears and tells Hanzou they should have a wedding celebration the following day. Usagi is very excited but Hanzou complains that they had agreed about Usagi completing her ninja training before... Suzune says that such a thing might take a lifetime, and since they want to be together they might as well marry now--- Hanzou cuts her with a very strong "no" that shocks Usagi, and goes on saying that it would be breaking the promise they/he made. Usagi can't take it anymore and leaves the room. Usagi runs while thinking about how Hanzou doesn't like her after all. Hanzou catches up with her and they both fall to the ground. Hanzou demands to know why she is running away, and Usagi angrily tells him it's he who is running away, bring up the ninja training as an excuse not to marry her. Hanzou gets upset as well and says that Usagi can learn the ninja arts. Usagi says that's not possible for her, but Hanzou says she is just deciding it beforehand and putting limits on herself. He tells her that she has matured since they met for the first time and that from now on he wants to see and protect how Usagi's heart matures as well. He smiles and tells her she will become a ninja and then become his wife.
Chapter 34 (Feb'2004) [ vol.05 ]
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Hanzou Sr. = Blonde Hanzou's father. Hanzou and Usagi are about to kiss, but Suzune stops them and for the next day/s Usagi can't stop thinking about kissing (^^; ). On the morning she stumbles upon Hanzou II making out with Princess Sara and Usagi wonders why Sara's belly hasn't grown yet, since she is pregnant. Sara tells her it has, and Usagi is shocked that the start of Sara's pregnant tummy is smaller than her own normal tummy! (^^;;; ) Usagi begs Sara to tell her how she keeps herself so fit and she tells her she climbs the nearby mountain 3 times each day... Hanzou II has a better idea, though, and hypnotizes Usagi so she sees Hanzou's face everywhere. Usagi spends a very bad morning until the gig is up and Hanzou II nullifies the effect (^^; ). Afterwards Usagi tries the "crab walk" to exercise. Hanzou takes her to the forest and helps her plant "Usagi's Tree." Usagi is very happy with her (very little) tree, and tries emulating Hanzou by jumping over it several times (except that Hanzou's tree is a full grown tree...), but is even more tired than with the crab walk. Even later, Sara teaches Usagi about tea, which Usagi doesn't like at the start but then gives her an idea about improving her medicines. 7 days later, Hanzou II returns home and steps (literally) over a very tired Usagi. Usagi overhears him and Hanzou talking about Ieyasu, since Hanzou II apparently just returned from Hamamatsu. Hanzou II mentions that he was really surprised because Ieyasu has lost a lot of weight... Usagi springs back to life and starts asking Hanzou II how Ieyasu did it (traditional Chinese medicines? Western medicines?). Hanzou II doesn't know, so Usagi decides she will go to Hamamatsu and ask him herself. Hanzou asks what about her training, and Usagi says that Ieyasu might have found a medicine to make one thinner. Hanzou gets angry Usagi would abandon her training for such a medicine, but Usagi angrily answers that if she can't lose the weight then she can't train. She tells him she is going, and leaves to pack. Hanzou II, who was surprised at the fight, tells Hanzou to try to understand Usagi a bit better and how hard she is trying so she can become his wife. Hanzou blushes with a thoughtful expression. Suzune catches up with Usagi as she and Mamezou prepare to leave. Usagi tells her that she is going to visit Hamamatsu, and Suzune warns her not to get close to Kouga(*). After leaving, Usagi wonders if Hanzou is still mad at her, but to her surprise, he is waiting for her at the road and after giving her a kiss in the forehead, tells her to come back (quickly). Usagi leaves for Hamamatsu. (* - Kouga (also known as Koga or Kouka) is a region in Japan famous because of its specialized ninja arts during the Heian and feudal times. They practiced a different ninjitsu than the Iga ninjas, which is what the Hattori (Hanzou's) family are.)
Chapter 35 (Feb'2004) [ vol.05 ]
Note: Dark haired Hanzou (our main character in this story) = Hanzou. Blonde Hanzou (main character of Tsuki no Toiki, Ai no Kizu) = Hanzou II. Hanzou Sr. = Blonde Hanzou's father. Usagi is kidnapped by Hikaru (the blonde ninja) while Hanzou II gives Hanzou some lessons in couple-ing by telling him that it's okay if Usagi can't do what he can do because each of them is different and the things they can do are also different. And if Usagi can't do something, well then is perfectly fine if Hanzou is there to help her (since Hanzou was telling Hanzou II that all the training was for Usagi's sake). Hikaru takes Usagi away and she discovers he is a Kouga ninja. Meanwhile, Mamezou tries to follow and ends up meeting Goemon! At Kouga, Usagi is very worried because of what Hanzou's sister told her. She notices the village looks very much like Iga (Hanzou's), but much emptier of people. She also sees a very handsome samurai pass by. Hikaru is not happy Usagi thought someone prettier than him and doubles his "beauty rays" (Usagi can't only take so much of it... ^^), and then takes Usagi to one of the buildings, where she finds out many wounded men. Turns out the village doctor died a month before. Usagi immediately jumps into action, opening the windows so there is fresh air coming in, and checking everybody one by one. She realizes that even though Iga also has wounded men, they aren't as badly injured as these. There is also a little kid down with fever that reminds her of Mamezou. Usagi recruits some women in the village to help grind the herbs and such for the medicines while Hikaru writes down how Usagi is preparing things. After much work, Usagi finally passes out after finishing the sesame seeds ball cakes she promised to the little kid. During the night, Goemon, Mamezou and the little dog (named "Usa-Maru," maru being what you use to turn a word into a (traditional) male name. For example, the male mascot for the Tokyo Gas company is called "Gasmaru"), all try to break into Kouga to rescue Usagi, but are caught by Hikaru. Goemon seems to recognize Hikaru. When Usagi wakes up the next day... she is lying right next to a naked Hikaru! (^^; )Usagi throws him out and then goes visit the sick. The kid is awake and much better, so Usagi asks Hikaru if she can leave and be on her way now that she is finished. But Hikaru has other plans, and tells Usagi there is one more medicine he wants her to do for him, an instant killing "medicine". Usagi is shocked, and Hikaru continues explaining that if they had some kind of medicine/poison that they could throw at their enemies and would kill them right away, then their men wouldn't get hurt at all. Usagi is of course VERY vehemently against creating something like that and wants to leave, but Hikaru drags her to another building where Goemon and Mamezou are kept hanging from the roof beams, and tells her that if she doesn't do it, he will kill her precious friends.
